The Syrian American Women's Association regrets to announce the passing of our dear friend Maha El Solh Hakki on Monday, July 13, 2015.  Maha was survived by her sons Ayman and Wahid Hakki, her brother Hisham El Solh, and her grandchildren; Rajai, Dannia, Maha and Ramsey Hakki.

Maha was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1929. Her father, Adel El Solh, served as the mayor of Beirut, Lebanon in the 1940's. Her brother, Munah El Solh, was a prominent Lebanese scholar and political icon. In 1950, Maha graduated from Beirut College for Women and in 1952, she married English academic/diplomat Rajai Hakki in Damascus, Syria. In 1990, she moved to America and quickly joined the Welcome to Washington International Club, remaining active with the group for over 20 years.

In addition to being a dear friend and supporter of SAWA, Maha was also a founding member helping bring humanitarian support to all parts of Syria.

God rest her soul in heaven. She will be greatly missed by friends and family across the world.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to SAWA in Maha's honor.
